Lasting Powers of Attorney - OPG Refund Scheme Launched

The Ministry of Justice has recently announced that it is refunding fees charged by the Office of the Public Guardian for the registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney between 1st April 2013 to 31st March 2017. Over this period, the running costs at the Office of the Public Guardian came down but the registration fee was not reduced to reflect this which is why the refunds are now being offered.

For a married couple who made and registered property and financial affairs and health and welfare Lasting Powers of Attorney between 1st April 2013 to 31st March 2017 they could be entitled to refunds of between £216 to £136 depending on exactly when the Lasting Powers of Attorney were registered.

The refund can be claimed online by visiting the relevant section of the Ministry of Justice website or by clicking here Applications to claim a refund must be submitted by 31st January 2021 and interest at the rate of 0.5% will be paid on refunds.
